Get a Website!

Box of Duck Donuts, 8x10, Kathy Lindert

For a long time, fellow artists, friends, and family members kept telling me “get a website!”   Yeah yeah …. sure I’ll get around to it.  But I didn’t.   Why not?

(a) Not Needed?  Thought posting my art on Facebook would be good enough

(b) Not Now?  Figured I would do it after I leave my “day job” to go full time as an artist

(c)  Not Able?  Tried to set one up with a popular “make your own website” package, but couldn’t get past the first screen with “Insert Your Name Here” due to lack of basic understanding of IT terminology

(d) Not Affordable?  Couldn’t afford to hire some website guru to set one up for me

(e) All of the above.

Well, yeah.   Pretty much (e), all of the above.  Then something cool happened… with a twist.  DCARTNews Critic Lenny Campello  put me in the “Top 10 Artists” category and named me for the “Award for Artists Most Likely to Attract Attention of Gallerists,” in his review of ARTOMATIC 2016.  Wow – that’s a huge honor!    See link to DCArtNews review here:  http://dcartnews.blogspot.com/2016/11/artomatic-2016-review.html   The twist?  In his comments for other artists, Lenny had lots of nice prose to write about their work. For the comments on me:

"Artist Most Likely to Attract Gallerists: Kathy Lindert... I can't find a website for her, so I'm assuming that this talented painter is unrepresented... Get a website!!
Top 10 Artists:  Kathy Lindert - Get a website!"

So basically the message was coming loud and clear: Get a website!  Pretty much the kick in the pants that I needed!

Scratch (a) Not Needed

Scratch (b) Not Now

But then there were still the challenges of (c) Not Able; and (d) Not Affordable.   Fortunately, the artist community is full of wonderful people willing to share good tips in their comments on my Facebook page.  Debra Keirce (http://debkart.com)  offered up the suggestion of Fine Arts Studios Online, or FASO.com.  So I tried it.  WOW - super easy!

Scratch (c) Not Able – my FASO website was really easy to set up, and Susan, of the online chat help, answered all of my questions – all with a good sense of humor on top of great advice.

Scratch (d) Not Affordable   -- FASO only charges a small amount per month for the websites

So in less than 24 hours, I had my website up and running (www.kathylindertart.com).  What’s more, FASO.com is more than a website service, it hosts an entire community of artists, sharing their work, posting blogs and useful articles on art and the business of art, and more!   And… within the first 48 hours over 250 people had already visited my website, according to FASO website tracking data. Awesome!

So, big thanks to DCArtNews critic Lenny Campello (for the honors + valuable feedback – er, much needed kick in the pants), Debra Keirce (for referring me to FASO), and FASO.com for making it so easy to get over my excuses and “get a website!”
