Seeking Comfort on a Cold Winter Day?

Honey Lemon T, oil on linen panel, 12x12
by Kathy Lindert
How about a warm cup of honey-lemon tea? Take a soothing pause in an otherwise busy day. Or reminisce with childhood memories of a parent or grandparent offering comfort. “Honey Lemon T” recreates those feelings, with the warmth of the honey bear, the juicy lemons, and the child's block.
The process of “Slow Painting" was a natural fit for the zen of “Honey Lemon T,” creating rich layers, nuances, and luminosity. The painting started with a series of under-paintings (first two images), to establish the basic composition, colors, and values (range of lights and darks). Glazing was then used to build up depth and luminosity, while refining the shapes within (subsequent images). Each layer contributes to the inner glow of the bear, and the nuanced colors in the lemons, and the reflections of the child’s block.
These kinds of glazing techniques were often used by the Old Masters, such as Van Eyck, Vermeer, and Rembrandt. Enjoy some Honey Lemon T for comfort and inner peace.
